đź’›I love teaching đź’›
It's one of the rare activities in life where I get just as much back as I put in (if not more!). My approach blends the spontaneity of improv theater with the rigor of statistics and the practicality of business—creating dynamic experiences where students learn tough concepts through games, simulations, and projects with outside companies. Students practice active retrieval, make cross-class connections, and explain their reasoning—so concepts truly stick. There's nothing quite like seeing a student's face light up with an "aha" moment, or receiving a note years later about how they've applied the material to their life. When I can create transformative learning experiences for my students, I'm 100% in my element. It's my peanut butter and my jam.Â
MBA students learn how to tackle business situations where complete data or clear formulas don't exist. Through interactive demonstrations and case examples, they experience firsthand how human judgment—while necessary—is vulnerable to biases that create costly errors. The course progresses from diagnosing these cognitive limitations to implementing practical solutions, with students learning to become effective "choice architects"— including taking on mini-challenges for real-world companies (such as a Chicago pizzeria or a fast-growing tech startup). Students leave with both awareness of decision-making flaws and practical tools to create better outcomes in their organizations.Â
Core class, customized to focus on applied intervention design
Taught Spring 2017 & Spring 2019 at Chicago Booth
Co-taught EMBAs 2023-2024 w/Richard Thaler at Chicago Booth
In this application-only lab class, Masters students (predominantly MBAs) work in small teams with real companies—from top tech firms to international banks to healthcare startups—to solve real business challenges using behavioral science. Teams diagnose problems, design psychology-based solutions, and test them via RCTs with actual customers or employees (N=50 to N>2 million!). The class combines practical client projects with hands-on learning activities—from behavioral science Bingo, to a power analysis negotiation, to a case simulation based on my prior consulting experience (insurance co)—giving students tangible experience turning behavioral insights into business value.
Elective co-developed w/Richard Thaler & Heather Caruso for Chicago Booth (30 wks), then re-invented for Wharton (12 wks)
Taught MBAs Fall 2017-2019 at Chicago Booth
Taught MBAs Spring 2023-2025 at Wharton
In this 5-module class, students tackle the business world's uncomfortable relationship with uncertainty. Instead of avoiding it, they learn practical ways to recognize and work with uncertainty in daily decisions. Students discover how our minds process ambiguous information and develop simple techniques to make better judgments—both individually and in teams. This hands-on course helps business leaders embrace complexity rather than hide from it, turning uncertainty from a source of anxiety into a competitive advantage. It draws on cognitive psychology, philosophy of science, and statistics—as well as an interactive case study based on my prior consulting experience (transportation co).Â
Elective developed for Executive MBA students
Taught Summer 2019 EMBAs at Chicago Booth
